Enjoy a moderate hike on Jean’s Trail at Great Mountain Forest, led by GMF’s Forest Manager Jody Bronson and friend Tom Stansfield. Topics will include past land use, woods lore and spontaneous forest banter. 2 hours – 2 miles, no dogs, rain cancels.
GPS 41.9653075, -73.271171699 Meet at 200 Canaan Mountain Rd, Falls Village. From the intersection of Routes 44 & 7 in Canaan, take Rt 7 south to Undermountain Rd (approx 3 miles). Go left onto Undermountain Rd to Canaan Mountain Rd (approx 3 miles). Look for the Rustling Winds Stable sign. Drive left on Canaan Mountain Rd. to the top (approx 3 miles). The GMF offices are located in an 1850’s farmhouse.

Tour de Forest

GMF will be co-hosting Norfolk’s first annual Tour de Forest bike rally with Norfolk Rails to Trails on Sat., Oct. 27, 2018 (rain date Sun., Oct. 28). The rally begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Norfolk Curling Club, 70 Golf Drive, Norfolk, CT. It will proceed to Mountain Road, then through Great Mountain Forest from the west gate on Canaan Mountain Road in Falls Village to the east gate on Windrow Road in Norfolk. It will continue into downtown Norfolk and end at the Curling Club.
Cost is $40 per adult, $20 per teen, 12 and under free. There is a $5 discount if you register before Oct. 1.
Refreshments and drawing at 1:00 p.m. followed by curling demonstrations at the Curling Club.
All proceeds go to supporting the Norfolk Rails to Trails and Great Mountain Forest.
