Monitoring and Managing Ash (MaMA)

Join GMF Woodland Academy and the Ecological Research Institute on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, for a hands-on citizen science field workshop focused on lingering ash detection for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) resistance breeding. Participants will learn how to assess ash mortality, identify and document lingering ash, and contribute to ongoing efforts to collect scion material for breeding highly resistant native ash trees. The workshop will include a short presentation followed by field training in Great Mountain Forest. After a lunch break (BYO), attendees are invited to continue the experience at Aton Forest’s Egler Preserve to explore ash in different habitats and help establish a new monitoring plot. A full event description and registration are available here. This program is part of the MaMA (Monitoring and Managing Ash) initiative (www.MonitoringAsh.org).
