The Spirit of Nature: Sumi-e Painting

In this workshop we will explore the basic techniques of sumi-e, also called ink brush painting. Using the surrounding beauty of Great Mountain Forest as inspiration, we’ll learn to grind ink, load the brush and make basic brush strokes. We’ll also talk about the philosophy behind sumi-e and the process of making immediate artwork. With relaxation, observation and practice, everyone will come away with unique sumi-e paintings of the natural world.
