GMF Forest Closed To All Recreation Visitors

Deer hunting is a long-standing tradition at GMF and a necessary part of forest management. With the upcoming deer-hunting season, GMF will be closed from November 19 to December 9, except on Sundays when hunting is not allowed by state law. For the past 50 years, Great Mountain Forest has managed the deer herd in an effort to maintain a healthy balance within the forest. Hunters serve as monitors of the wildlife population and they keep a daily log of all their sightings which aids in monitoring wildlife population densities and informs conservation decisions. Please be safe, stay out of the woods from November 19 – December 9 (except for Sundays) and allow our hunters to help us to maintain a healthy deer population. It’s because of your cooperation, Great Mountain Forest is one of the healthiest forest ecosystems in New England.
